There are many options in the choice of material for bow ties. Depending on the desired look, budget and durability of the material, a choice can be made. Our bow ties are made of silk, polyester, velvet (velour) and linen, among others.
Most of our collection consists of silk bow ties. This is because silk has a luxurious look and a beautiful natural sheen. On formal occasions, a silk bow tie is the best choice.
Mainly, our silk bow ties use 2 weaving methods. This can be a "repp structure" or a satin weave. Especially in the case of a satin weave, it is important to keep in mind that the material is a bit more fragile.
Over the years, the quality of polyester bows has improved considerably, but in terms of shine and softness, it still doesn't match a silk bow. However, a polyester bow tie is more budget-friendly and easier to clean than a silk bow tie.
A velvet bow tie is excellent for occasions like New Year's Eve or a gala. The softness of the material combined with its sheen is unique. The "richness" of the material lends itself well to winter use. In terms of price, velvet bows are at the level of silk bows. However, like silk, velvet is a bit more difficult to clean.
Linen bow ties are an excellent choice, especially in spring and summer. The material has a slightly more casual look than other materials. Where necessary, linen can also be cleaned a little more thoroughly than silk.
Linen bow ties are an excellent choice especially in autumn and winter. This is because wool has a warm appearance and therefore suits this time of year just that little bit better! The matte appearance of the material gives it a slightly less formal look than, say, a silk bow tie.
